For a long time, I confused survival patterns with “normal.”

People-pleasing felt like love.

Overworking felt like purpose.

And silence felt like peace.

Healing taught me that what I used to call normal was actually toxic.

Emotional growth doesn’t always look glamorous, sometimes it looks like deep breaths instead of quick reactions, silent goodbyes instead of arguments, and learning to sit with uncomfortable truths instead of running from them.

I knew I was breaking generational cycles the first time I paused before reacting the way I was taught to.

Instead of yelling, I took a breath.

For the longest time, I thought setting boundaries meant I was being difficult.

I’d overexplain, apologize, or try to soften my “no” so I didn’t upset anyone.
